Best club teams in Alberta begin quest for Nationals

2016-08-19

(August 19, 2016) 38 club soccer teams from across the province, considered the best in their age group, will begin their journey to qualify for Canada Soccer’s Sport Chek National Club Championships today in Calgary.

Alberta Soccer will host three age groups during the Servus Tier I to Nationals this weekend: U14, U16 and U18 male and female competitions for Tier I teams who qualified from their respective leagues.  The competition is comprised mostly of teams from Calgary, Edmonton, Sherwood Park and St. Albert. In 2015, five teams from Calgary and one team from Sherwood Park took home provincial gold and qualified for nationals.

All games will be co-hosted by the Calgary Minor Soccer Association and will take place at the Calgary Soccer Centre throughout the weekend. Finals will take place on Sunday August 21st at the Soccer Centre and will be live streamed via Alberta Soccer’s competitions website for the first time. Winners from each of those finals will qualify for Canada Soccer’s Sport Chek National Club Championships taking place from October 5-10, 2016. This year’s Sport Chek National Club Championships will be held in Moncton, NB (U-14), Lethbridge, AB (U-16), and Vaughan, ON (U-18).
