Alberta claims three medals at National Championships

After finishing at the top of their provincial competitions, seven Alberta teams spent Thanksgiving Long weekend competing at the Canada Soccer Toyota National Championships.

The Edmonton Victoria Women’s team stole the show in the Jubilee Trophy competition in Surrey, BC – winning their seventh Jubilee Trophy (and forth in the past five years). After earning three wins and one draw throughout the competition, they achieved what they set out to, and brought home gold.

In addition to Victoria’s first place finish, Alberta teams earned a silver medal (Calgary Foothills U15 Boys), a bronze medal (Edmonton Inter U15 Girls), two sixth place finishes (Calgary Eastside Memorial U15 Boys and Sherwood Park Phoenix U17 Girls), one seventh place finish (Calgary Northside Hurricanes U17 Boys), and a ninth place finish (Calgary Callies Men).

Calgary Hosts

The U15 Cup was held on Alberta soil in Calgary, AB – hosted by the Calgary Minor Soccer Association. In true Alberta fashion, heavy snowfall welcomed teams from across the country. After some much-needed sunshine and several hours of shoveling by tournament representatives and referees, the tournament got underway with more pleasant conditions for teams and spectators alike.

Alberta Soccer would like to recognize Calgary Minor Soccer for hosting a top-notch U15 Cup. This is no small feat, and the Association did a commendable job. Thank you!
