Alberta Soccer will hold its Servus Youth Tier 1 Provincial Championships this weekend – providing a platform for many of the top youth amateur soccer teams to engage in healthy competition. The Championships will see 48 teams competing in 96 games in both Calgary and St Albert, with games kicking off on Thursday, August 22 and wrapping up with gold medal matches on August 25.

While each of the competing teams is vying for the top spot in the province, for many, a ticket to Nationals is also on the line. The first-place male and female team in both the U15 and U17 categories will earn the right to play against the best in the country at the Canada Soccer National Championships later this Fall.

Winners of the U15 category will compete locally in Edmonton, while the victorious U17 teams will compete in Charlottetown, PEI – all from October 9-14, 2019.

In addition to showcasing top performing players this weekend, the games will also feature 74 qualified referees – 50 in Calgary and 24 in St Albert. These referees have been awarded Tier 1 Provincial games due to their consistently reliable performances throughout the past outdoor season. Throughout the U15 and U17 matches this weekend, 10 referee assessors will be conducting evaluations of several of the officials who aspire to move to higher level games. This is an excellent opportunity for these referees to demonstrate to the Referee Development Program what they’re capable on the field. And with the Canada Soccer National Championships being held in Edmonton this October, these assessments will prove extremely valuable to the program.

All U13 competitions will be held at St Albert Soccer and all U15 & U17 matches held in Calgary at the Calgary Soccer Centre.
